The Cars
The Funcup is a unique concept with-in the world of motor racing which is aimed at all capabilities in motorsport, from novice drives to experience racers.
Over 30 years ago the Funcup founders envisaged the new series to be above all else: Fun!
To achieve that goal the cars had to be sporty, sexy, fun, affordable and easy to drive.
They decided that the Volkswagen beetle would be the perfect car as a base for Funcup.
The original Beetle was designed and built in 1938 by Ferdinand Porsche, and became one of the words iconic cars, the car would be recognisable and fun, but underneath the body would hide at it’s heart, a real racecar.
The Funcup concept proved to be a great success and its popularity grew in many countries. The first generation Funcup car was created in 1997 and named Evo I, using a 1.8 ltr engine that produced 130 bhp.
In 2012 the Evo 3 was introduced with a fuel injected 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 172 bhp. Basically, the tubular chassis design has not changed since it’s inception.
Engine power is dispersed to the rear wheels through the 5 speed sequential gearbox.
Australia wide track days, race meetings and even Mount Panorama Bathurst have already been conquered by the mighty Funcup car.
